GEORGE MCKEAND

Played since: 1956 Joined the band: FOUNDING MEMBER About George: George started learning pipes in 1956 in the Red Hackle building at the College of Piping after being inspired at the 1955 World Championships in St Mirren Football Park. He then played in the 265th Glasgow Boy's Brigade after moving to Linwood, He started a band with 1st Linwood B.B and joined Chrysler Pipe Band. In 1978, he moved to Irvine and for a brief period, played with Kilmarnock pipe band. He started a pipe band with 1st Irvine B.B. George was involved with starting the Dreghorn and Bourtreehill Pipe Band which later bacame the Irvine and District Pipe Band. From 1997 until 2009, George was Pipe Major of the band. He now has the post of Pipe Sargent. |
