Instrument: Bagpipes
Played since: 2008 Joined the band: 2008 About William: William started learning pipes with the band in 2008, aged 11 and was taught by various members of the band. At the same time, he also started getting lessons with George Sharp and later received piobairachd tuition from William Gilmour. He has been competing member of Irvine and District since the 2011 eleven season but has been taking past in band engagements since getting his bagpipes in January 2010. In 2011, he was runner up in the North Ayrshire Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition and has won prizes in several other piping competitions. In 2012, William played solo in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as a part of a concert for the Confucius scheme. Since the end of the 2012 season, William has held the post of Pipe Sargent within the band. He enjoys his role of teaching the intermediate learners as well. He has gained his PDQB Bagpipe Tutors Certificate. Other instruments that William play include; piano, smallpipes and whistles. He has played at events across the country from small parties to the North Ayrshire Provosts awards and for the Scottish Secretry of Education, Michael Russell. |
